Foodpanda, Pakistan's largest meal delivery firm and e-commerce platform in general, has begun a trial project to test food delivery through a customized drone.

According to an official release, the test flight of the drone "Pandafly" was held at the F-9 Park Islamabad in collaboration with the office of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad.

A Foodpanda rider carried a meal box weighing around 2.5kg into the drone's storage bag from a restaurant at one end of the park. The item was then taken to another rider at the opposite end of the park, where it was collected and presented to children from 'Sweet Homes' who had been invited to the event.

The company's future usage of disruptive technologies will result in speedier delivery across wider distances. Customers in peri-urban and distant locations will benefit the most, since they have fewer food alternatives in their immediate area, and with drone delivery, they will be able to purchase food from major cities as well.

 A cyclist will finish the last mile of drone delivery. It's also worth noting that this is the first commercial drone of its sort produced in Pakistan for this reason, indicating that Foodpanda is encouraging the development of local technology.

For the pilot initiative, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat and his office worked closely with Foodpanda, and the DC was also the keynote speaker at the event.

"E-commerce and the use of technology to serve the people is undoubtedly the future," he said, adding that the Islamabad civil administration is dedicated to supporting anybody who takes the initiative to give better convenience and amenities for the general population.
